First they came for the communists
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

First they came for the gun owners and I didn't speak out because I owned no guns and opposed the full exercise of Second Amendment rights.

Then they came for those who exercise their free speech rights under the First Amendment and I didn't speak out because I never spoke out AND most certainly never "spoke truth to power".

Then they came for those who wished to freely exercise my religion and I didn't speak out because I had no religion.

Then they came for honest journalists and I didn't speak out because I never read newspapers nor viewed any but the most liberal TV news broadcasts.

Then they came for me and there was no one left with the power or public voice or faith to speak for me.
