My qualifications for the below comments are: 34-years of professional work with criminals in a State "department of corrections"; And, many tangential contacts with the more "emphatic" of gun rights supporters.
There are those who maintain it will be possible to take (Modern) firearms away from:
1. Those who wish to use them in the execution of Jihad, insane mass/revenge killings or other criminal attacks; And,
2. Those who have concluded that a well armed citizenry is the only sure defense against the tyranny of the above-noted persons AND overbearing public officials---As declared by Presidents Jefferson and Washington.
[hey are often the same persons who maintain that our governments do/will not abuse the rights of its citizens---As is totally disproved by our nation's history and the activities of the current Federal Administration and too many lesser government's agencies.]
Those persons are: Lying to themselves; Or, knowingly lying to others; Or, pathologically out of contact with reality

NOTES
A. "No freeman shall ever be debarred the use
of arms"; "The strongest reason for the
people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to
protect themselves against tyranny in government"; "The tree of liberty
must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants";
“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from
time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. LET THEM TAKE
ARMS.” "The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws
of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor
determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted
and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent
homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an
armed man." "The

B. "The very
atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil
interference---they deserve a place of honor with all that is good.";
"Firearms
are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples'
liberty teeth"; "A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined but they
should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence
from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own
government."; And, as still true, "The
time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men
or slaves" (President George Washington)
